About the Department
Nehru Group of Institutions functioning in South India is the pioneer of Aeronautical Engineering education over five decades. The Department of Aeronautical Engineering at Nehru Institute of Engineering and Technology started in the year 2006 with an intake of 60 and progressing with an intake of 120 from the year 2007, Permanently affiliated to Anna University, Chennai and accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. The department offers under-graduate course and Postgraduate course.
Since its establishment, department prepares technocrats to be competitive and best in class to join in the global industry. The Department is progressing with best laboratories covering core areas like Aero-Design, Structures, Propulsion, Aerodynamics and Systems to mould the students with broad skill set in the research, design, development, implementation and operation of aircraft, aero vehicles and related engineering systems.
Highly qualified and experienced faculty members guide and ensure the students to learn intensive basic concepts with laboratory experience to face the challenges in industries across the world.
The courses offered cater to the needs of Aerospace, Defence, Manufacturing industries etc., This has also enabled the students to pursue higher studies in leading Universities in India and abroad.

About
NIET has a centralized Centre of Excellence (CoE) -KORE Lab in association with Jet Aerospace Aviation Research Centre, Palakkad which was inaugurated on 22nd February 2020 at Nehru Institute of Engineering and Technology. Department of Aeronautical Engineering is a part of the Centre of Excellence (CoE) – KORE lab along with the other departments of NIET. The CoE – KORE lab is an establishment based on the terms and conditions under which on-site programs and Research activities.
Objectives
- The objective of the CoE – KORE lab is to improve the skill set of the engineering students in R&D sector.
- It is providing facilities like making placement opportunities, on Job trainings, Technical Research activities, Courses, Journal publications, Research Training internships and Projects for the student’s fraternity.
- CoE incorporates research activities, short/long term training sessions on Aerospace/Aviation sector.
- The CoE – KORE lab conducts ISRO-IIRS outreach programme for the students at free of cost.
- The main focus of the CoE is to facilitate knowledge transfer through conferences, workshops, seminars and entrepreneur development programs.
Industrial Interaction
About
The student association of the Department of Aeronautical Engineering is actively involved in conducting various events regularly to improve the participation in the Co-curricular and Extra curricular activities by all the students. All the students of the department are members of the association, who will elect the office bearers such as President, treasurer etc. Both the inter collegiate and collegiate level programs are regularly conducted by inviting the resource persons from the renowned organizations. The association also utilizes the services of the alumni for career development programs.

About
Aero Modeling and UAV Laboratory was well equipped with all the necessary facilities. In the Aero Modeling and UAV Laboratory, students design, fabricate and fly models. It not only gives a primary introduction to the world of aerodynamics, designing, electronics, engine technology, wood crafting and the technology of new materials but also provides a hands-on experience necessary for developing a practical aptitude.
Students prepare various UAV’s and drones and fly their prepared models practically. Students create the aircraft models with innovative ideas which will also helpful in understanding the real time application of an aircraft and increase the interest of students to study and understand the aeronautical engineering. Some of the student utilized the Aero Modeling and UAV Laboratory for projects are listed below.
